Unicorp National Developments Inc. bought Gooding's Plaza in Orlando, Fla., from BP-RP Universal LLP, an affiliate of RP Properties in Los Angeles, for $22 million, or $270 a square foot.  Built in 1992, the 82,026-square-foot retail center is on 11.77 acres at the center of Orlando's tourism corridor. Among the center's tenants: Gooding's Supermarket, Charley's steak House, The Crab House and Ripley's Believe it or Not!

It's official: Unicorp National Developments Inc. finished buying more than 100,000 square feet, including retail and office condominiums, at PremiereTrade Plaza in downtown Orlando for $20.2 million.  Tom Cook of Tom Cook Commercial represented the seller, The Plaza LLC.  Chuck Whittall and Lee J. Maher, co-principals of Unicorp, represented the buyer. Whittall and Maher weren't immediately available for comment.

ORLANDO -- In 1999, the situation looked dire for downtown.  Tourists bypassed the area. Shop owners abandoned their stores, which sent retail vacancy rates soaring to 22 percent. At that time, a city-sanctioned study determined that many downtown dining and nighttime venues warranted high marks, but retail offerings ranked far below that of other, comparable urban cores.
